The Department of Language and Culture, Government of Telangana, is a premier institution dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and propagation of the rich cultural heritage of Telangana. Established with a vision to protect and nurture the diverse linguistic and cultural traditions of the state, the department works tirelessly for the welfare of artists and artisans.

Our department oversees activities ranging from cultural events and festivals to scholarship programs for artists, from the protection of classical arts to the promotion of folk traditions. We believe that culture is the soul of a civilization, and language is its voice.

Our Journey

Key milestones in the department's history

1956

Department Established

The Department of Language and Culture was established following the formation of Andhra Pradesh state, with a focus on Telugu language promotion.

1984

Artist Welfare Schemes Launched

Introduction of financial assistance and pension schemes for artists and cultural workers across the state.

2014

Telangana State Formation

With the formation of Telangana, the department was restructured to focus on the unique cultural heritage of the new state.

2018

Digital Initiatives

Launch of digital platforms for artist registration, online applications for schemes, and digital preservation of cultural artifacts.

2022

Artist ID Card Program

Introduction of the Artist ID Card system providing official recognition and access to government benefits for registered artists.

2024

Expanded Pension Coverage

Significant expansion of pension benefits, covering over 12,000 artists and cultural workers across all 33 districts of Telangana.
